Warriors of Iron by MJ Porter
Series: The Dark Age Chronicles #2
Genres: Historical, Historical Fiction
During Britannia’s tribal age only the strongest prevail…
Britain AD541
Seeress Meddi has been restored to her rightful position of influence within the Eorlingas tribe. But a heavy cloud hangs over the tribe’s survival with the escape of the treacherous Elen who seeks to exact a bloody vengeance following Meddi’s reinstatement and her downfall.
Meddi knows Elen will return to settle the blood feud and the tribe must be ready to face this deadly threat with iron. They must toil day and night to harness the power of the lost magiks to make the weapons needed to overpower Elen.
Meanwhile, Wærmund, a warrior of Saxon descent, has escaped his enforced captivity and vows vengeance against his captors. He too hungers for the promise of sharp blades and travels West to find those who can fashion iron into blades sharp enough to kill. But when a lone woman befriends the band of warriors, promising him even more than that, he’s beguiled by her tale of deceit amongst her own tribe, so reminiscent of his own.
Unbeknown, Meddi and Wærmund share a common enemy and one who is just as belligerent as they are…

Review
MJ Porter continues to amaze me with her ability to blend breathtaking battle scenes with rich, character-driven storytelling. While the clash of warriors is fierce, the true heart of Warriors of Iron lies in its characters and their relentless journeys.
Meddi the Seeress is tireless in her search for Elen, and we learn more about her past with both Elen and the old Seeress, Marchell. Her thirst for vengeance adds emotional weight to every step she takes. Meanwhile, young Wærmund seeks freedom from his father’s shadow, leading his loyal warriors on a dangerous path filled with betrayal, survival, and ambition. Porter also gives us Gildas, the Christian monk, whose role grows steadily more intriguing, and of course, Elen—an unforgettable villain you’ll love to hate.
The narrative is layered with danger and discovery: rival tribes, devastating raids, visions of destiny, and a pulse-pounding climax that had me on edge—literally standing in my living room because I couldn’t sit still. The stakes are higher, the emotions sharper, and the revelations more shocking than in Men of Iron.
This is a series that demands to be read in order, as each book builds beautifully on the last. With Warriors of Iron, MJ Porter has delivered a dark, intense, and deeply satisfying installment that left me desperate for the final book.
