Shameless Game by Lana Piers
Series: Renegades Hockey #4
Genres: Sports Romance
She was chaos. He was control. Neither stood a chance.
A grumpy NHL goalie. His chaotic live-in nanny. One forbidden attraction that destroys every rule he’s built his life around.
Hayes Callahan likes routines, control, and emotional distance.
The broody Edmonton Renegades goalie is a single father trying to rebuild his relationship with his teenage son after years of guilt, regret, and mistakes he can never undo.
What he absolutely does not need is Wren.
The sunshiney free spirit shows up late to her nanny interview wearing a trench coat over a tiny pink dress, insults him in his own doorway, and immediately turns his carefully controlled life upside down.
She’s reckless.
Disorganized.
Wildly inappropriate. And somehow…exactly what his family needs.
Now the grumpy hockey player can’t stop thinking about the chaotic nanny living under his roof. Not when she’s making his son laugh. Not when she’s sketching secret pictures of him smiling. And definitely not when she looks at him like there’s something worth loving beneath all his rough edges.
But Hayes knows better than anyone that he destroys good things.
He’s older. Broken. Exhausted from carrying years of guilt. And the more Wren makes him feel emotions he buried long ago, the more terrified he becomes of ruining her too.
Because one night in her bed is all it takes for the emotionally closed-off goalie to completely lose control.
Now the possessive single dad who swore he’d never risk his heart again can’t stop touching her, protecting her, or imagining a future he doesn’t believe he deserves.
And when fear finally pushes him to let her go… Hayes realizes too late that winning Wren back may be the hardest fight of his life.

my review
This is the fourth book in the series and my second book from the author as well as in the series. I am going back to read the other two I haven’t read yet. I love a good age gap romance, there is just something about them and this one certainly does not disappoint. While I will say sports romance normally isn’t the subgenre I reach for, Lana Piers is beginning to change my mind. Her and a very small handful of authors are showing me a side to sports romance that I just haven’t ever been inserted in before.
Here we meet the grumpy goalie, Heyes, who happens to also be a single dad. One that needs a nanny to help with his son while he is traveling for games. Although I should say that Hollis, his son, isn’t in need of a nanny so much as needing someone present while Heyes is away if that makes sense without giving anything away.
Enter Wren and all the sunshine she brings. She is perfect, in my opinion, for this household of grumpiness. I liked Wren so much as she was such a free spirit which was a great balance for Heyes. I will say this was a pretty quick read and I would have loved more about these two. I feel like they needed a little more but not in a bad way. I just wasn’t ready for this to end!
