Head Witch in Charge by Avery Flynn | Book Review

This is my first book in this series as well as by this author. Although I admit that I thought I had read an Avery Flynn book before. After searching I couldnโ€™t find anything. Maybe it was something a few years ago and I just canโ€™t remember it.Head Witch in Charge by Avery Flynn | Book Reviewfive-stars

When two witches with a tangled history are forced to team up, it spells disaster in this steamy rom-com from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn

Itโ€™s the curse of every familyโ€™s heir to be the responsible one. My family being the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom doesnโ€™t eliminate that fact, it only makes it worseโ€”and thatโ€™s why I, Leona Amber Sherwood, never do the unexpected. Except for that one time I did.

Believe me, I have rued the day that I got married in a midnight ceremony under a full moon to Erik Svensen, the heir to my familyโ€™s deepest, bitterest enemies, and now, he wonโ€™t agree to a divorce unless we return an ancient spell book to his familyโ€™s secured facility.

But on our road trip to return the book, I learn more about Erik as we encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer we work together, the more Iโ€™m convinced that he might not be the evil trickster I assumed he was. Any more time together will leave me even more enchanted with my husband and thatโ€™s the last thing I want. And if I keep telling myself that, maybe Iโ€™ll start to believe it.

my review

Anyway, this is the second book in the series and while it can be read on its own I found there were some interconnected things that I didn;t understand having not read the first book. It took me a little while to grasp things. So I highly suggest reading the first book before reading this one.

That being said, I found that I enjoyed this book. The magic system was well thought out and felt natural to me. I have read books where the magic system leaves me asking what is going on. I loved both Leona (what a great name!) & Erik both as individuals and as a couple. I felt like they worked well together. Erik would get on Leonaโ€™s nerves just for the sake of getting on her nerves. That is the making of a lifelong relationship.

I felt for Leona being the responsible one and leading the family in the future. That is a heavy burden and the fact that her rebellion is to marry a family enemy makes all better. Her family is like the best family around while his familyโ€™s reputation leaves a lot to be desired. All of that on top of a road trip and lets just say this book was my jam!
