Little Ray of Pitch Black by Lani Lynn Vale | Book Review

Sometimes I read a Lani Lynn Vale book and I am left being a little creeped out. This one was that way for me. Not in the sense that I didn’t like the characters or anything. It was the villain in this one. He creeped me out so badly which was of course the whole point. I came away at one point thinking, how in the world did you think this all up? He is that good and you are left wondering why he turned out the way he did.Little Ray of Pitch Black by Lani Lynn Vale | Book Reviewfive-stars

Series: Don't Date Him #11
Genres: Romantic Suspense
About the Book:

The A in Jessamy Darling's name stands for a lot to deal with.

Her complete disregard for all forms of authority stems from a childhood past where her parents didn't believe that her brother was a literal psychopath. From framing her for killing the family dog to stuffing her backpack full of prescription drugs, then reporting her, her brother has made it his life's mission to make her as miserable as possible.

The moment she turned eighteen, she bailed from her parents' house like the bottom of her feet were on fire. But if she thought that moving out would stop her brother's punishments, she was wrong. He only gets more creative.

And by getting more creative, he starts to turn the town of Sawtooth against her.

No grandma, biker, or shop owner wants anything to do with her.

Eventually, she decides...fuck it.

If everyone was going to hate her anyway, why not give them a real reason to hate her?

***

For years, he's been dealing with her attitude. Her complete disregard for anyone and anything should wear thin.
Except Black's always had a soft spot for trouble.

And she's Trouble with a capital T.

He's pulled her out of more fires than he should have, and he probably should've locked her up and thrown away the key a long time ago.

But Black Adkins, sheriff of Jesper County, wasn't elected into that position because he was a stand-up guy. He's a rebel at heart, and Jessamy Darling is his kryptonite.

Putting Jessamy in a cage would break her, and he only wants to see her fly.

my review

Jessamy has not had the easiest life and her family leaves a lot to be desired let me tell you.

She moved out of her home as soon as she could and immediately became the talk of the town. For years she has been the talk of town and everyone (at least most of them) appear to hate her.

Black, meanwhile, is the sheriff and of course a member of Dixie Wardens MC. If you have been reading this series then you already know that his ex disappeared years ago with his daughter and he has been looking for her ever since.

Black had also been the one having to deal with Jessamy for years because as I said her family is the worst and well it’s a whole thing. Now, though she is an adult and Black is beginning to notice her in a way he never has. He is also paying more attention to the way the town treats her and is questioning his thoughts on her family.

There is so much to love about this book. Jessamy’s family is written so well that honestly saying too much about them will give away things. Also, the line about a certain condiment was both diabolical and funny at the same time. No, I won’t be telling you because it would give it away.

The chemistry between Black and Jessamy scorches the pages but they also have their flaws. It really irritated me that Black couldn’t see what her family was doing to her earlier. I think the whole thing with his wife just clouded his judgement. I love that Jessamy embraced being a rebel at times but then we saw how much being so hated affected her. This was quite simply a masterclass in romance suspense. I was left on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.
