Our Chance by Margaret McHeyzer
Series: Hope River #2
Genres: Friends-to-Lovers Romance, Small Town Romance

We started out as friends.
But as time goes by I find myself developing a crush on Jake.
I’m fairly certain our attraction is mutual. When we’re together we’re dynamic, our chemistry is undeniable. But something is stopping us from acting on our feelings.
Resisting him is nearly impossible.
The problem is, I’m running from my past.
Jake’s the Sheriff of Hope River, and it wouldn’t be hard for him to uncover my secrets.
Do I risk telling him the truth, or do I run again?

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Jake and Elle were both in book one but in this one we get more of their story. We get to see a different side of them and I could not love them more. One thing I will say is that Margaret McHeyzer knows how to set up her characters well. I liked this pair in book one but I love them in book two.

Elle is running from her past and although she is attracted to Jake she isn’t sure that is enough to risk him finding out about her past. Jake isn’t a dummy though because he knows something is going on. Jake also has his own secrets that control so much of his life.

This was a much more emotional read than the first book. I cried through so much of this book but loved it all the same. I did enjoy this a little more than the first one because of the suspense element that was part of the story. So far I would say that Jake and Elle are my favorite couple.
Gran is as always a wonderful character and I honestly am on the edge of my seat waiting for book three.

About Margaret McHeyzer

STRONG, BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS CHARACTERS.

**Write something worth reading**

I’m Margaret and I’m a self-published author.

Recently I was fortunate in obtaining New York Times best-selling status on my YA/NA book – Ugly, and my YA book – Mistrust.

My last six books have been YA and I’m completely in love with the genre. I love being able to communicate with people through my words and stories.

My writing genres all differ, but the one thing I keep consistent is my heroines. All my female lead characters are strong, gutsy and not the ‘perfect’ woman. While my books all have romantic elements in them, they aren’t just about the romance. They’re about finding strength, acceptance and making life long connections.

I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I have while writing them.

This sounds like a really good book but I don’t like to read books that make my cry. If it made you cry it would probably make me cry too lol. Hot cover and great title.

I can always use a good cry especially if there is a good ending.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars A bookstore owner stalks an author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

Wolf shifter Chief of Police ✔️
Slow-burn romance ✔️

A town full of lovable busybodies ✔️

I loved how Liza and Cassian slowly became part of each other's everyday lives before romance really took center stage. They were so comfortable together and completely made me smile.

And Alaric's formal complaint? I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my drink. 😂

I cannot wait for the next trip back to Blackthorn Bay!

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺
