Summer Backlist Reading

Jun. 01, 2021

Summer Updated 2025

This summer I thought I would do something a little different. I thought I would share some of my favorite back list books from authors I enjoy but don’t review very much here. A backlist book is one that has been published for a while (however I will include some that were published earlier this year).

Going through authors backlist is the best way to discover how a series has developed over time or even how the author has progressed in their writing. For example, in my opinion, if you are going to read Lani Lynn Vale’s books I always suggest that you start at the beginning with her first book. Now you don’t have to too but with her work you will find that many of her series connect in one way or another. You will meet characters that you will later see as the parents and even grandparents of future characters. There are also plenty of times when you will meet a side character who never meant to have a book but end up with one.

Not to mention you may have an author that you discovered recently who has a large backlist of books for you to discover. Never discount what has already been published. I am notorious for reading books months or even years after all of the hype and discovering that I hated them or loved them. Don’t get me wrong new books are the bees knees but there is something to be said about a backlist book as well.

When I am in a reading slump I always hit the backlist first. If nothing there catches my fancy then I most likely end up reading an old favorite. That is why this summer is so important to me. I am going through that backlist pile of books I have to be read and some will be rereads from long ago and sharing them all with you. Don’t worry I still have plenty of new releases over the summer for y’all to devour as well.

I consume mainly manga and fanfiction these days and have been for a long time. I have a long TBR list on Goodreads that I peruse from time to time to discover older books and I look up new releases as well. I’ll have to get around to reading Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D novel series and continue Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles.

CAN YOU KEEP HER SUPERNATURAL SECRET? Moon of Secr CAN YOU KEEP HER SUPERNATURAL SECRET?
Moon of Secrets by Brenda Trim and Tia Didmon is now live!!

https://geni.us/MoonofSecrets

To stop the darkness, I must walk among the enemy

Going undercover in a rival wolf pack wasn't part of the plan, but it's the only way to uncover their true motives. With a false identity and a carefully spun lie, I slip into their hidden community, only to learn the truth is far more dangerous than I imagined.

These wolves aren't evil. They're being used. Manipulated by an ancient entity that feeds on shifter energy, one bent on harnessing enough power to permanently darken the moon. If it succeeds, every wolf shifter will gain unstoppable strength, at the cost of our humanity.

As suspicion sharpens around me, I lean on Eve's spells to mask my identity and Salima's guidance to reach my allies on the outside. Time is running out, the lunar ritual draws near, and I'm walking a razor's edge between exposure and survival.

Because saving the city isn't enough this time. I have to save them, even if they tear me apart for the truth.

I blame getting pregnant on my sister getting mauled by a bear.
If she hadn’t been attacked that day, I wouldn’t have come home to check on her. I wouldn’t have run
into Boone Windsor at that bar. I wouldn’t have gone home with him, ready to drown my sorrows in a
different, more satisfying way.
I wouldn’t have given him that second chance.
Not after he’d so badly burned the first chance.
I would’ve gone back to work half the country away, and I would’ve kept my head in the sand where
Boone was involved.
But my sister did get attacked. I did give Boone a second chance.
And I almost died because of it.
After my memories are lost in an accident that almost takes both of our lives, Boone makes me fall in
love with him all over again.
And since I didn’t know all the hell that awaited me, I didn’t guard my heart.
I fell, and fell, and fell until there was nowhere else to go but down.
Then, when those memories come back and I’m faced with the consequences of my actions, I didn’t
falter.
I knew he was hell, yet I chose to burn with him anyway.
