Some love stories are easy. And then there are the ones that fight for every single moment of happiness—and make you feel every ounce of it along the way. This is one of those unforgettable, heart-wrenching, and beautifully earned romances.

I blame getting pregnant on my sister getting mauled by a bear.

If she hadn’t been attacked that day, I wouldn’t have come home to check on her. I wouldn’t have run into Boone Windsor at that bar. I wouldn’t have gone home with him, ready to drown my sorrows in a different, more satisfying way.

I wouldn’t have given him that second chance.

Not after he’d so badly burned the first chance.

I would’ve gone back to work half the country away, and I would’ve kept my head in the sand where Boone was involved.
But my sister did get attacked. I did give Boone a second chance.

And I almost died because of it.

After my memories are lost in an accident that almost takes both of our lives, Boone makes me fall in love with him all over again.

And since I didn’t know all the hell that awaited me, I didn’t guard my heart.

I fell, and fell, and fell until there was nowhere else to go but down.

Then, when those memories come back and I’m faced with the consequences of my actions, I didn’t falter.

I knew he was hell, yet I chose to burn with him anyway.

my review

Nettie and Boone were truly written in the stars, two people destined for each other, even if the road to get there was anything but easy. Their story is filled with heartbreak, resilience, and a love so deep it refuses to fade, no matter what life throws at them. We get glimpses of their connection in earlier books, but nothing prepares you for the full weight of their story.

Once you understand everything they’ve been through (the trauma, the separation, the outside forces working against them) it’s impossible not to feel completely invested in their journey. Their past is messy, emotional, and built on a love that has endured more than most could survive.

Nettie is an absolute force. She’s strong, sarcastic, fiercely protective, and still manages to hold onto her softness despite everything she’s faced. With a family situation that would break most people, she continues to fight back and stand her ground. Her ability to still see the good in others, even when she feels broken herself, made me love her even more.

And Boone… this man. He carries so much pain, making choices he believes are for the greater good, even when it costs him everything. He’s sweet, attentive, protective, and deeply devoted, but he also has a fierce edge that comes out when it matters most. His love for Nettie is unwavering, and watching him fight for her, and for them, was everything.

Together, they navigate years of pain, misunderstandings, and circumstances beyond their control. Their journey isn’t smooth or simple, but that’s what makes it so powerful. The love between them never disappears. It evolves, strengthens, and ultimately becomes something unbreakable.

What makes this story stand out is the balance. It’s emotional and heavy at times, but it also has those lighter, sweeter moments that remind you why these two belong together. The banter, the familiarity, the way they know each other so deeply, it all adds to the magic.

Lani Lynn Vale once again proves why she’s a must-read author. Her storytelling is creative, emotional, and completely addictive. She has a way of weaving together romance, drama, action, and heart in a way that keeps you turning pages and feeling everything. This is easily one of my favorite books in the series and honestly, one of my favorite Lani Lynn Vale books ever. And if you’ve read her work before, you know that’s saying something.
