The Girl of Lost Petals and Possibilities by Laura Briggs | Book Review

Nov. 01, 2022

The Girl of Lost Petals and Possibilities by Laura Briggs | Book Review

A good start to a new series but I felt I was missing something since it was more about characters from a previous series.

The Girl of Lost Petals and Possibilities Series: A Cornish Hotel by the Shore #1
Genres: Womens Fiction

On holiday in Egypt with Sidney and Dean, young writer Maisie is—in her mind—on top of the world. Her long-labored manuscript is finally going to be published, she and Sidney are deeply in love, and the future looks bright on every level.

In one moment, however, it all changes. Tragedy leads to overwhelming loss that Maisie can't even begin to process. As the world itself turns upside down, there's no solace for Maisie from the growing sense that her wonderful future is finished.

No dream about to come true. No certainties of new chances in life.

No Sidney.

Even if the first two did not break her, the last one is determined to. It's up to Maisie to find her strength and determination to find a new future, even if—unthinkably—it may be nothing like the one she dreamed of.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I didn’t read A Little Hotel in Cornwell which is where Maisie Clark finds her happy ending. So I went into this book knowing nothing about the characters. After reading this though I think I need to go back and read it. You can easily read this one on its own but I felt as though I was missing something having not read it.

This certainly isn’t a romance book and it left me with all sorts of emotions. I will give you a small spoiler…. this book is a bit sad but that being said it is hopeful by the end. This book is more about coming out the other side when life throws the unexpected at you. When everything you thought your future would be is now different.

I loved Maisie as a character and her will to not give up. I’m not sure I wouldn’t have in the same circumstances. She has a strength to her that I enjoyed. All of the other characters were also wonderful. As I said I felt like I was missing something having not read any of the previous series. However, as far as the first book in a series goes this was good. I intend to read the previous series and then more in this one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars A bookstore owner stalks an author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

Small-town charm ✔️
Wolf shifter Chief of Police ✔️
Slow-burn romance ✔️
Found family vibes ✔️
A town full of lovable busybodies ✔️

I loved how Liza and Cassian slowly became part of each other's everyday lives before romance really took center stage. They were so comfortable together and completely made me smile.

And Alaric's formal complaint? I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my drink. 😂

I cannot wait for the next trip back to Blackthorn Bay!

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺
