Army Girls: Operation Winter Wedding by Fenella J Miller | Book Review by Fenella J Miller
Series: Army Girls #4
Genres: Christmas, Historical Fiction
May 1942
Since joining the ATS all Clara Felgate has wanted to do is be a dispatch driver and serve with the brave boys abroad, doing her bit for King and country. But almost as soon as she arrives at Camberley Barracks, Clara seems to bring a string of bad luck with her.
Captain Perry Harrow shouldn’t even be at the barracks teaching a bunch of ATS girls how to drive. He should be fighting on the front line with his men. Thankfully Lance Corporal Felgate is perfectly proficient, and Perry finds himself drawn to the hardworking ATS girl.
Despite their duties keeping them busy, Clara and Perry are drawn to each other, too. But they both know a relationship would be disastrous. With the war still raging, their future together can’t be guaranteed. Unless they make the most of the time they have and make this one military operation they know will have a happy outcome!

Review
Army Girls Operation Winter Wedding by Fenella J Miller is part of her engaging series that highlights the experiences of women serving in the British Armed Forces during World War II. The story follows Clara Felgate, who has just completed basic training and is eager to begin her career. Ambitious and determined, Clara hopes to serve as a driver, preferably a dispatch rider near the front lines, or at least as an ambulance driver. As a no-nonsense non-commissioned officer, she quickly takes charge when she and a group of women arrive at the station without transportation to their ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) base. Clara gets them organized and starts marching them the couple of miles to the base, only to be met by a rude driver when the transport finally arrives. When he bumps his head, Clara takes over, driving the lorry for the first time and successfully leading her group to the base. Her resourcefulness and determination set the tone for her journey in the military.
This book is a well-researched and captivating portrayal of the lives of young women in the war. It provides a slice-of-life perspective, focusing more on the day-to-day experiences of women like Clara rather than following a traditional plot. While there’s a subtle romance woven into the story, the focus remains on Clara’s military service and her aspirations. The narrative is both touching and realistic, offering a fresh look at a part of World War II that is often overlooked. I found it to be an entertaining and heartfelt read, and I absolutely loved it!
