It is time for the second book in the Madd Crossfit Series and this one tore at me more than any other book. It fel a bit more personal but I will share why down below.

When he moves back to town after being gone for five years, he tries his best to stay away.

But there she is at his CrossFit gym. Then having a baby on the side of the road. Oh, and breaking him a little more with each step she takes away.

Eventually, they find their way back to each other. The only problem is, by the time that Mavis makes her way back into his heart, it breaks. And not in a rhetorical way. In the ‘he only has days to live’ kind of way.

Review

Okay this was hit home harder than any of Lani Lynn Vale’s other books. I was just diagnosed with heart failure so I can relate to Murphy. My father died from it twenty one years ago as well so I have been through all stages of it. I cried for most of this book on my first read. Then I went back and reread just in case I missed something in my emotional breakdown.

I loved Mavis and Murphy from the first book when we met them. There was so much chemistry between them you could feel it in that one. This one is off the charts with that chemistry and love. There is so much I want to share and say about this book but I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that when Mavis really needs Murphy he is always there. I love the relationship he has with her son, Vlad, as well. That little boy bonded with him the moment he came into the world.

I thought Mavis’ grandmother had turned things around and was a bit nicer in the last book but I was wrong. She is an awful person. Also Vlad’s biological father, I wish some things would have different with him. I was hoping he was the one who…well you have to read it to understand. I had just hoped for a different outcome where he was concerned. Even though we don’t actually meet him other than through other people he is horrible as well.

We did get to meet Haggard (love the name) who will be I. The first book of the new Battle Crows MC series in 2022. I was left wondering if he was related to Bayou and Dixie.
