Series: Bear Bottom Guardians MC #1
Genres: MC Romance, Romantic Suspense

When Rome Pierce moved to Bear Bottom, Texas, it was his intention to lay low. To not be seen. To find a way to heal his body and soulโ€”as well as his sonโ€™s.

Nobody would know by looking at him that he used to play professional football. Not with the Bare Bottom MC cut covering his back, and definitely not with his friendly smile completely obliterated.

No longer is there charm in each smooth word that comes out of his mouth. Whatโ€™s left is an angry, bitter, scared man thatโ€™s terrified one day heโ€™s going to wake up and his entire world is going to be gone.

Nobody knows what drove him to leave the game he lovedโ€”nobody but her.

Sheโ€™s the one person that has helped him make it through the dark days and even darker nights. Sheโ€™s the bright and shining star in his pitch-black sky.

And he doesnโ€™t even know her name.

He should be afraid that she knows things that not anyoneโ€”not even his best friendโ€”knows.

Yet, with each encounter, he gives what little bit of his soul remains, and before he knows it only two people on this earthโ€”one dying, and one too afraid to liveโ€”make his life worth living.

Until one day he has to chooseโ€”the love of his life, or the life he brought into this world.

Two impossible situations. One decision that would change him forever.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Talk about Mess Me Up! This book certainly did that, it could not have been a better title. I am pretty sure I cried through the first half, maybe more. I knew that this would be emotional since Rome’s son was sick but I didn’t know just how much it would gut me. Rome was as strong as a parent could be under the circumstances. He did everything he could to fight for his son. When his ex-wife left their son in his care, he stepped right up. When his son asked for Izzy to come clean the house because she brought him cookies Rome called right away.

Izzy was everything that Rome needed. She was strong when he couldn’t be and the light that pulled him back from the darkness. She hasn’t had the best of relationships with her family nor her ex. She is just trying to make her life better and live her life. She loves Ty-Ty (Rome’s son) and feels so much for what he is going through. She also loves Rome even when he doesn’t want her to.

This was a powerful start to Bear Bottom Guardians MC and I am more than certain that every other book in the series will surpass the standard that Lani Lynn Vale has set with this one. Once again she takes us a journey of love and second chances.

RPโ€™s Biggest Fan,

Iโ€™m not sure how you became my therapist, or how we even got to the point of being pen pals, but Iโ€™ll take what I can get.

I could use a friend.

So, you want to hear about my life? How itโ€™s nowhere near as glamorous as everyone makes it out to be?

Where should I start?

How about the paparazzi. Theyโ€™re awful. They follow me home. They follow me to work. They follow me to my sonโ€™s appointmentsโ€”though technically, they donโ€™t know heโ€™s my son. Luckily. That was one thing I did manage to do rightโ€”keeping him out of the limelight.

Lucky for me, too. Or, at least for him.

And if the paparazzi wasnโ€™t bad enough, my ex was only with me for my moneyโ€”because she knew that I had it.

If there was one thing I could erase from my life, it would be her.

But, if it wasnโ€™t for her, I wouldnโ€™t have my sonโ€ฆand at this point, heโ€™s the single bright light in the sea of darkness that is my life.

Last week she threatened to sue me because I broke the custody agreement we have for our son. Do you want to know what I did? Nothing. Not one damn thing. I stayed at her house while she went away for the day, and I put a drink on her coffee table.

Let me repeat thatโ€ฆI put a drink on her coffee table.

Ok, so it was a Coke can, and I didnโ€™t use a coasterโ€ฆ but Iโ€™d finished the damn thing. It was completely empty, it wasnโ€™t sweating, and it didnโ€™t leave any sort of mark.

But, with the way she reacted, you wouldโ€™ve thought that Iโ€™d carved my initials in the table using a screwdriver or something.

Oh, and letโ€™s not forget what my team manager wants me to do.

He wants me to pose naked except for a strategically positioned football for Sports Illustrated.  When did Sports Illustrated stop focusing on sports in favor of selling whatโ€™s sexy?

You told me last week that you werenโ€™t sure that you were going to write anymore. I realize that this back and forth we have going on isnโ€™t normal, but if it doesnโ€™t bother you, it doesnโ€™t bother me.

I hope you write to me soon, RPโ€™s Biggest Fan.

Rome.
