When a chance encounter changes everything.

Lexi
Falling for a famous hockey player? I would have laughed at you.
I was trapped in a marriage-caged with cruelty.
I wasn’t ever going to be free.
Until I found a way to escape.
Before him, I thought love was a nightmare.
Now I dared to dream.

Kirby

First time I met her I was drawn to her light.
Then I saw the fear in her eyes.
Fear I’ve seen before.
Our chance encounter turned into two.
If she ever needed me, I’d be there.
I never dared to want her.
But I lost my heart to her anyways.

my review

Natasha Madison does it again, delivering a sports romance that completely stole my heart. From the very first moment, Kirby was impossible not to love. He sees Lexi, feels an instant pull toward her, but more importantly, he notices that something isn’t right. That awareness—his instinct to protect, to help, to care—is what makes him such an incredible hero. He isn’t just charming or swoony; he’s emotionally present, patient, and deeply compassionate. A true knight in shining armor.

Lexi’s journey is just as powerful. She is strong, brave, and resilient, even when coming out of an incredibly painful situation. Watching her slowly learn to trust again, to believe that she deserves real love, was both heartbreaking and uplifting. I loved how Kirby never rushed her, never pushed—he simply showed her, again and again, what love should look like.

One of my favorite things about Natasha Madison’s books is how interconnected they feel. Lexi’s family feels like family, and stepping back into this world felt warm, familiar, and comforting. The emotional depth, the romance, the support system—all of it worked beautifully together.

This story started with a dare, but it turned into something meaningful, emotional, and unforgettable. I adored every page and finished the book with a full heart and a permanent book boyfriend.

I also got to review the audiobook and let me tell you it was an absolute delight. Teddy Hamilton and Stephanie Rose brought Kirby and Lexi to life beautifully, capturing every emotional beat, tender moment, and swoon-worthy interaction. Their performances added depth and intensity to an already fantastic story, making it even more immersive. A truly excellent listening experience and one I highly recommend for audiobook lovers.

About Natasha Madison

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the
kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring
kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do
what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
