Lana Piers has become one of those authors I know I can pick up when I want a romance I'm going to have fun with, so of course I was ready for the start of her new Lit Creek Blue Collar Boys series. Give me a contractor hero, a small town, and a man who has been keeping his feelings to himself because the woman he wants is completely off-limits, and you've already made it very difficult for me to put the book down.

I knew I was going to read Nail Me Down because Lana Piers has become a favorite author of mine, but Ford Briggs made sure I was completely sold on the Lit Creek Blue Collar Boys before I even finished the first book.

Ford is a contractor, Holly’s boyfriend’s best friend, and a man who has been quietly noticing that something isn’t right. His friend has been behaving strangely, Holly isn’t being treated the way she deserves, and Ford is stuck in the middle because he has feelings for the one woman he absolutely should not want.

Then everything blows up.

Holly discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her, and suddenly the relationship she thought she had looks completely different. What I liked was that Holly also has to admit things between them had been bad for a while. The cheating might be what finally ends it, but this wasn’t a happy, healthy relationship right up until that discovery.

And Ford has been right there all along.

There is something about a hero who doesn’t need to make a big speech because you can see exactly how he feels through everything he does. That’s Ford. He’s protective without making Holly seem helpless, and once he finally gets the chance to show her how he feels, that man is ALL IN. He has spent enough time pretending he doesn’t want her. He’s not wasting another minute once she’s actually his to love.

Normally, a relationship moving this quickly can be a little hit or miss for me. Here it worked. This is a novella, so I wasn’t expecting months of longing and a hundred pages of Holly wondering whether she was ready to date again. Ford and Holly already know each other. He has already fallen for her. She already trusts him. Once that line between friendship and something more disappears, there isn’t much reason for Ford to pretend he wants to take things slowly.

And honestly, I didn’t want him to.

The protective, slightly obsessed energy was exactly what I wanted from him. I also loved seeing Holly realize that what she had accepted in her previous relationship wasn’t what love had to look like. Ford pays attention. He shows up. He makes it very clear that being with her isn’t some impulsive decision he made because she suddenly became available.

I flew through this one. It’s short, sexy, emotional without becoming overwhelmingly heavy, and exactly the kind of romance I like to grab when I’ve been reading something that requires a little too much from my brain. Sometimes I don’t want forty-seven complications standing between two people. I want the cheating ex gone, the good man to finally get his chance, and a satisfying epilogue that lets me see exactly where everyone ended up.

That epilogue made me ridiculously happy, by the way.

Now that I’ve met my first Lit Creek blue-collar boy, I need to know which one Lana Piers is handing me next.
