After the Plague by Imogen Keeper | Book Review

Sep. 02, 2022

After the Plague is broken into sections, or volumes. In this version you get books 1-3 together. It made reading that much easier since each volume is short. There is a volume four but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet.

After the Plague by Imogen Keeper | Book Reviewfive-stars
After the Plague Books 1-3 by Imogen Keeper
Genres: Post Apocalyptic, Dark Romance, Sci-Fi

99% of the population dies due to a strange unnatural virus, leaving 1% grieving, scared, desperate, capable of anything, plunged into a world without laws, and no one to enforce them anyway.

Frankie has zero skills to survive, but when she loses the love of her life, she discovers an untapped well of hope and courage inside herself – to find the others, the left-behind survivors who must now rebuild in the face of gathering clans, rising dictators, and everpresent danger.

When Yorke, a lone soldier, who never wanted a family, finds Frankie, he has a single burning conviction: if anyone will make the rules in this strange new lawless world, it will be them.

Before the apocalypse they were strangers. Now their lives will forever be entwined.

This special edition set includes the first three volumes in one sexy, seductive, breathtaking story that blends romance, adventure, and hope into an unforgettable read. Fans of Laura Thalassa and Diana Gabaldon will love this Romantic saga.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was such an amazing story! It is set in the future and deals with a pandemic. One in which there is only 1% of the population left. We meet Frankie who is heartbroken over losing her husband to the pandemic. We also meet Yorke, a US army member sent home from Germany so he can die on his home soil. He is trying to find his brother who was homeless and a drug addict.

We watch as Yorke reaches the end of his rope. He’s drunk on a rooftop ready to end it all when he hears a woman’s cry. Realizing he is not as alone as he thinks he is determined to find her.

This book gives us hope and strength in the face of the unimaginable. Now that we have experienced a pandemic this story doesn’t feel so much like a fantasy but one that could easily happen. Frankie is the hope in this book. Not the hope of grand things but simply the hope of a woman looking forward and surviving the way she promised her husband. She is full of grief and it isn’t until she finds an orphaned young boy and his dog that she finds a purpose.

While Yorke is the strength. he went from house to house helping people in their final hours while searching for his brother.  He has been trained to set feelings aside, to be hard and unyielding. Yet it is his choice to help those in need. To search for Frankie after hearing her cry out.

Yorke and Frankie come together in the best possible way. First as a new little cobbled family trying to survive in a new world together. Their feelings begin to come more to the surface as Frankie works through her grief. I love that the author didn’t have them jump into bed together. Honoring Frankie’s grief that way made me love the book even more.

This book was devastating and as I said felt more real because of the pandemic we just went through. It brought home just how lucky we were and what a future one could cost us all.  It is a wonderful story of devastation and hope that I highly recommend.

About Imogen Keeper

An Amazon best-selling and award-winning author, Immy writes romantic apocalypse and dystopian stories. Her books are a shade too dark to be light, and a tinge too light to be dark. They’ll make you cry and worry and wonder, but there’s always a layer of hope and laughter and sexy times to brighten it all.

In addition to writing, Immy loves her children, her husband, books about steam and darkness, flowers (even if she accidentally shmurgles half of them), coffee, DIY projects, trying new things, learning new facts, sunshine, guacamole, and sticky toffee pudding.

Sounds very real and maybe hard to read considering the subject matter, but probably very good.

My landlord is broad-shouldered, permanently unimpressed, and entirely too comfortable telling me
when I’m wrong. I think he’s grumpy, rigid, and overprotective. He thinks I’m chaos in Crocs.
Falling for Josh Lawrence was never part of the plan.
But then he starts showing up.
For my son when he’s overwhelmed.
For my daughters when they need someone steady.
And for me when my hands won’t stop shaking.
I didn’t come to Vermont looking for a protector. I don’t need rescuing. But somewhere between harvest
festivals, pumpkin canoe races, and quiet mornings in the sugar shack, the man I swore was just an
annoyance becomes my safe place.
And when my dangerous past resurfaces and threatens the new life I’ve built, the grumpy maple farmer
next door becomes my fiercest protector, ready to stand by my side while I fight for my family.

Because it turns out maple farmers are a lot like their trees: quiet, stubborn, and surprisingly sweet
when the pressure builds.

"I've got to get Julian's booster." I turned toward the van, sticking a hand in my purse and rummaging for my keys. "No need. I got one." Lips pursed, I turned back to him. "Here." He opened the back door, and sure enough, there was a booster. I strode to the door and examined it. "That's the same." "Yes. The same one you have. I saw it while I was at Costmart and grabbed it, figured it would be easier." Blinking, I turned to him, my brain not quite understanding. "Got snacks too." Julian wandered to Josh's side. "Is Wayne coming?" Ducking, he shook his head. "He's keeping Jasper and Vincent company while we're gone. Since we need my truck to haul the pumpkin back, there isn't enough room. Julian's whole body sagged with disappointment. "But he'll help us build our boat, don't worry." The truck was equipped with snacks, water, blankets, and a few extra hoodies. Well-worn hoodies that looked so cozy I wished I could slip one on now, then take it home with me. "Why do you have so many snacks?" Maggie asked. "Cause kids eat a lot," he replied, eyeing her in the mirror. Ellie shrugged. "Accurate." We hadn't even driven outside town limits before they were digging in. "Mom," Julian shouted far louder than necessary. "He has cucumbers. Cut in circles, not sticks." I turned in my seat, and sure enough, Josh had procured cucumbers, Julian's favorite, and had cut them with precision. "He got my crackers too." Heart thudding, I eyed the man beside me. "How did you know which foods were Julian's safe foods?" His focus was on the road, his fingers tapping the steering wheel. "I noticed and took a photo of the box with my phone. Didn't want to mess it up for him."

To stop the darkness, I must walk among the enemy

Going undercover in a rival wolf pack wasn't part of the plan, but it's the only way to uncover their true motives. With a false identity and a carefully spun lie, I slip into their hidden community, only to learn the truth is far more dangerous than I imagined.

These wolves aren't evil. They're being used. Manipulated by an ancient entity that feeds on shifter energy, one bent on harnessing enough power to permanently darken the moon. If it succeeds, every wolf shifter will gain unstoppable strength, at the cost of our humanity.

As suspicion sharpens around me, I lean on Eve's spells to mask my identity and Salima's guidance to reach my allies on the outside. Time is running out, the lunar ritual draws near, and I'm walking a razor's edge between exposure and survival.

Because saving the city isn't enough this time. I have to save them, even if they tear me apart for the truth.
