Bookish Goals for 2021

Jan. 01, 2021

Overcoming a Reading Slump updated for 2025

It’s the beginning of the new year and time for us to set some goals. I’m setting both personal and business goals this year but here on Wickedly Romance I want to share my bookish goals with you. I will say that this blog is a lot of work if you didn’t already know it.

It makes me very little money if any. All of the profits from here come from affiliate links in the posts which is a small amount. That’s okay with me because I love reading and this blog does get me plenty of books that I would have to pay for if I didn’t post about them. This is the year I have a lot planned for this little blog though. Including the new look that you now see.

BOOKISH GOALS

Read (NOT re-read) at least 50 backlist books

I did a horrible job in 2020 with this. I need to read more of my backlist titles. I re-read so much that I need to slow down a little so I can thin my TBR pile a little more. The problem is I will think of a book I haven’t read in a while and then go and re-read it.

Stay on Top of NetGalley (and Edelweiss)

I want to keep the ARCs cleared on here so I can keep my rating up. I go through periods where I will request a crap ton of books and then get swamped with so many to read and review. I want to be a little more careful about that this year on both of these platforms.

Stay on Top of Reviews…

Which leads me into staying on top of my reviews. Too many times in the past I have scrambled at the last second to write and post them. There are times when I have them scheduled and ready to go. Another thing to go along with this is to prewrite my Amazon (and other retailers) reviews in advanced. That way I only have to copy and paste them on the day I want to post them.

New Features and More

There are plenty of new features and things that I have planned over here. I have a new Weekly Chapter unveiling next week that help you stay up to date with what is going on here each week with the click of a button. I also want to have more giveaways here for y’all. Most of these things have already been scheduled to happen in the coming weeks.

READING CHALLENGES

I am never sure if I should do Reading Challenges or not. I will start some of them and then never finish them. Last year I joined the Goodreads one and read more than the 300 books I set for myself. This year I upped that 400 books for the year. Another thing I have to remember to do is when I happen to re-read a book I add it into Goodreads so I can count towards the challenge. I left about half of those off last year.

I am taking part in the 2021 Beachcomber Mystery Reading Challenge which I think is going to be much fun! I think this is going to be a great excuse to add more mystery books into my reading schedule.

I am also taking part in the The 52 Book Club 2021 Reading Challenge. This is another to expand and branch out my reading horizons.

BOOK CLUBS & GROUPS

I joined several book clubs and groups this year because I must not be busy enough. Just kidding! I love meeting other readers and finding out what they are reading. Here are some that I have joined and will be sharing with you throughout the Year:

  • Brenda Novak’s Book Group
  • Read It Forward Book Club
  • Hello Sunshine Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club
  • Oprah’s Book Club
  • Between Two Books
  • Poppy Loves Book Club

That’s my 2021 Bookish Goals! Here’s hoping I am able to meet them all!

    Happy New Year!
No resolutions. My goal is to swim 3 times a week. Only been able to do twice a week since July.
    Thanks for the contest.

My goal for this year is to pay off a few bills that have been outstanding for two years. Winning this $1,000 would pay off two bills. I would be forever grateful for it as i am trying to improve my credit.

This is a more complicated question than it has been in any other year. I don’t know if I can answer it.simply.. I know I want to do everything I can to not get sick before I can get a vaccine. I know I don’t want to make anyone else sick. And I know that this tells me I yearn to live – and this year should be about me looking at what I want this chapter of my life to be about, what brings me joy and how can I bring joy to others.

Several of my authors have books to be released this year that I’m looking forward to. What bigs me the most, though, is when an author finds a way to make sure his/her politics are expressed in a book that otherwise has nothing to do with politics.

Holly Lorena Cain, formerly known as Georgina Lorena Cain, was well acquainted with rock bottom. She’s coasted along its rocky shores for years. It all started when her mother left her when she was barely old enough to understand. For years, her and her dad struggled to make ends meet. A dying cattle farm can’t run itself, and with her dad having cancer, it got harder and harder to hang on to land that’s been in her family for generations.

Just as she thinks that she’s finally made it, her father passes away and leaves every single thing he owns to their neighbor. The man that’d been worming his way into her father’s good graces while she’d been away pursuing higher education.

But she can’t be mad.

Being mad would mean that she has a soul left, but she sold that a long time ago to pay for college.

Once she comes to terms with her father and the land being gone, she moves back to Bear Pass and with one thing on her mind—avoid Denver at all costs. He can never know just how much it hurt that he stole her life away from her.

Only, he makes it impossibly hard to stay away.

He’s there around every corner. He offers her a place to stay. Makes sure she has a place to work. Fixes her car. Saves her from a kidnapper. Oh, and gives her everything her heart desires.

She stays away as best as she can, but she doesn’t stand a chance against Denver’s determination and charm. He’s there when no one else is, peeling her off the floor and propping her back up again each time she falls.

The gruff motorcycle club president with his scary glares and harsh work ethic has decided to make her his, and he won’t stand for her refusal.

He’s been protecting her for her entire life, and she doesn’t even know it.

He won’t stop now, even if she’s bound and determined to stay away.

My landlord is broad-shouldered, permanently unimpressed, and entirely too comfortable telling me
when I’m wrong. I think he’s grumpy, rigid, and overprotective. He thinks I’m chaos in Crocs.
Falling for Josh Lawrence was never part of the plan.
But then he starts showing up.
For my son when he’s overwhelmed.
For my daughters when they need someone steady.
And for me when my hands won’t stop shaking.
I didn’t come to Vermont looking for a protector. I don’t need rescuing. But somewhere between harvest
festivals, pumpkin canoe races, and quiet mornings in the sugar shack, the man I swore was just an
annoyance becomes my safe place.
And when my dangerous past resurfaces and threatens the new life I’ve built, the grumpy maple farmer
next door becomes my fiercest protector, ready to stand by my side while I fight for my family.

Because it turns out maple farmers are a lot like their trees: quiet, stubborn, and surprisingly sweet
when the pressure builds.
