Infernal Affairs by Matilda Martel
Series: Blackthorn Bay #2
Genres: Cozy Monster Romance, Paranormal Romance
In Blackthorn Bay, magic is woven into everyday life. The coffee is enchanted, the town council is run by monsters, and the local bakery might just change your fate.
Daisy Flowers never planned to stay.
A human from neighboring Thistlebrook, Daisy only came to Blackthorn Bay for a temporary apprenticeship at Hex & Honey, the town’s beloved enchanted bakery where love potion danishes, lucky scones, and heartbreak brownies fly off the shelves daily. But somewhere between the sea salt air, the magic-soaked streets, and the people who make her feel seen for the first time in her life… Blackthorn Bay begins to feel like home.
Then she meets Dr. Enoch Infernalis.
Elegant. Calm. Dangerously handsome. Enoch is Blackthorn Bay’s resident demon psychiatrist, known for helping everyone from anxious vampires to feuding witches work through their supernatural baggage. He’s patient, perceptive, and entirely off-limits.
Especially after Daisy jokingly suggests becoming his patient.
Enoch refuses immediately. Dating a patient would be unethical.
Taking her to dinner instead?
Far more complicated.
What begins as harmless advice quickly becomes stolen evenings, undeniable chemistry, and a romance neither of them expected. But when Daisy’s deeply anti-monster parents demand she return home to Thistlebrook, Daisy must decide where she truly belongs.
Because leaving Blackthorn Bay would mean leaving behind the life she’s always wanted… and the demon who’s slowly stealing her heart.
Welcome to Blackthorn Bay, where the pastries are magical, the monsters are charming, and falling in love can be absolutely infernal.

my review
Blackthorn Bay has done it again.
One of the things I love most about this series is that the town feels just as important as the romance. Every new book lets you spend more time with the quirky residents, and each visit makes the town feel a little more like home.
This time it’s Daisy’s turn.
She only planned to stay long enough to finish her apprenticeship at the bakery. Instead, she discovers something she’s never really had before. Friends who care about her, a place where she belongs, and a life she isn’t ready to leave behind.
Then along comes Enoch.
Enoch is the town psychiatrist and also happens to be a demon. He spends a good portion of the book trying to convince himself that getting involved with Daisy isn’t a good idea. Watching him lose that argument with himself was half the fun.
I loved these two together.
Daisy has such a quiet strength about her. She isn’t loud or flashy, but she knows exactly who she is and what she wants. Enoch may be protective, but he never overshadows her. He simply becomes the person standing beside her when life gets messy.
When Daisy’s family shows up determined to drag her back into the life she left behind, Enoch’s protective streak comes roaring to the surface. Those were some of my favorite moments because there was never any doubt whose side he was on.
The romance was sweet, funny, and exactly what I wanted. Add in a bakery, a demon psychiatrist, a charming small town full of supernatural residents, and I was completely hooked.
I loved the first book, and somehow this one managed to make me love Blackthorn Bay even more. Now I’m already counting down until the next visit.
