my review
This was my first book in the series, and I absolutely loved it. Even jumping in partway through, I was able to follow the story and connect with the characters, though it definitely made me want to go back and read the earlier books.
The world of the GhostWalkers is fascinating and a little unsettling—men enhanced psychically for military use, paired with equally enhanced women who were created through unethical experimentation. That foundation alone gives the story a strong emotional and moral edge, and it adds real depth to the romance and action.
Jonas and Camellia’s story pulled me in right away. Camellia has been living in hiding after escaping the experiments, surviving on her own and trusting no one. When Jonas finds her, the tension between them is immediate—not just from the danger surrounding them, but from the undeniable connection they share. Their bond is intense, but it’s also layered with hesitation, mistrust, and the need to truly understand one another.
I really enjoyed how their relationship developed. It wasn’t instant trust, and that made it feel more real. Both characters are strong in their own ways, and watching them slowly open up while dealing with external threats added to the emotional impact.
The action in this book is fantastic. Once things start moving, it doesn’t let up. There’s danger on all sides, unexpected twists, and a sense of urgency that keeps you turning pages. The tension builds not just from the external threats, but also from the internal conflicts within the team—especially when betrayal and hidden secrets come into play.
Camellia was a standout for me. She’s far more capable than she first appears, and I loved seeing her step into her strength and play a crucial role alongside Jonas and his team. Their dynamic, combined with the high-stakes action, made this a really compelling read.
Overall, this was an exciting, emotional, and action-packed story that has definitely hooked me on the series. A strong five-star read that has me ready to dive into the rest of the books.
