The Case of the Christie Conspiracy by Kelly Oliver | Book Review

I enjoy Kelly Oliver and her books so when I saw she had written one with Agatha Christie as a suspect and not the author I was all for it. Let me tell you this is everything a mystery fan loves to read about.

Agatha Christie is about to embark on a new, gripping murder case. But this time, she’s not the author – she’s a suspect…

1926 – Christie is a darling of the literary circuit and the most desired guest in London’s glittering social scene. She can often be found at meetings of the Detection Club – where mystery writers come together to share ideas, swap secrets and drink copiously. But then a fellow author's initiation ceremony takes a gruesome turn, and one of the group ends up dead. Now, Agatha is no longer just the creator of great mystery plots – she’s a player in one.

And when Agatha disappears the day after the murder, she’s widely assumed to be guilty. Only Eliza Baker, assistant to the Club’s enigmatic secretary, Dorothy Sayers, is interested in investigating the case. But in a world where murder is the ultimate plot device, can Eliza piece together the evidence and find the killer before it’s too late?

my review

The Case of the Christie Conspiracy is a brilliantly crafted historical cozy mystery that seamlessly blends real-life intrigue with a compelling original story line. While Agatha Christie’s famous disappearance serves as a fascinating backdrop, the true star of the novel is Eliza Baker, a sharp and unconventional protagonist whose determination and intellect make for an engaging read.

The mystery itself is cleverly woven, with an intriguing set of suspects, a dash of wit, and just the right amount of suspense. Eliza’s no-nonsense approach to questioning is refreshing, and her interactions—especially with Theo—add depth and complexity to the story. The chess elements bring an extra layer of strategy to the plot, and the historical setting is vividly brought to life with rich details and well-researched real-life figures.

The book is fast-paced, immersive, and filled with twists that keep the reader guessing. With hints of a budding romance and the promise of more mysteries to come, this is the perfect start to what feels like an exciting new series. A must-read for fans of historical cozies, smart heroines, and, of course, Agatha Christie herself!
