Fuck me for choosing the wrong sister.
Atlas Carter was a protector. He was a police officer, had spent years in the Air Force, spent his entire teen years as a volunteer firefighter.Being a protector was in his blood.
It was his dream.
So when a woman was in a dangerous situation, it was his every instinct to protect her. To shield her. To watch over her.
Only, that woman had played him.
She’d set him up.
She’d made sure that he only saw her. Then, when the real woman who should hold his heart, the sister, comes into his life, he doesn’t see past the hatred of her to know that she’s only trying to protect him in return.
He spends the next year terrorizing the woman who’s supposed to be his. When the dust finally settles, and he can see clearly once again, she’s no longer there waiting for him.

Review
In the previous book we learn that Auden (Atlas’ brother) thought Atlas was into the bakery owner. Turns out he was into her employee, Pepper. Boy was he into her! However she has a sister that Atlas feels for and is the psychopath to end all psychopaths. The nut job is playing Atlas and he seems to be the Carter she has fooled. Because of her lies Atlas spent a year treating Pepper like she was the worst human on the planet.
Atlas is a good guy and genuinely believes the lies that Pepper’s sister has told him. Thus he hates that he is so attracted to Pepper. Honestly Pepper and Atlas are similar in the fact they will give someone the benefit of the doubt. Pepper moves to Dallas to deliver some news to her sister and once that is down she could have left. However, she met Atlas and stays because of her feelings for him. She stays even though he is so mean to her.
Atlas begins to see the sister for what she truly is when he gets a huge surprise in life. He realizes just how wrong he was and how much Pepper cares for him. She could have left at any point and when this surprise comes along she doesn’t run for the hills. She stands beside him and helps him through it all.
There were so many great characters in this book. I know I say it about all of them. There are some truly sad moments and when Atlas and Pepper meet for the time I cried. You will too trust me.I wish there was a little more with her sister though. I am not sure what but maybe just a little more confrontation. Okay, I honestly would have liked to have read about one of the Carters body slamming her to the ground. When you read the story you will know what I mean too. I feel like we needed that closure of sorts.
Forest was one of my favorite side characters and while he got plenty of scenes I would have loved a little more. Of course I always love when any of the other Carters show up. They remind me so much of my family. We are always up in each other’s business as well. However, we couldn’t live in the same neighborhood. I would have to smack my sister daily.
