The Mother’s Day Victory by Rosie Hendry | Book Review

The Mother's Day Victory by Rosie Hendry | Book Review

The Mother’s Day Victory by Rosie Hendry | Book ReviewThe Mother's Day Victory by Rosie Hendry
Series: Women on the Home Front #2
Genres: Historical Fiction

Can the Women on the Home Front protect their community in times of war?

Norfolk, 1940. As war rages on, sisters Prue and Thea, along with the wider community of Great Plumstead, are doing all they can to help the war effort, from running the mobile canteen for the Women's Voluntary Service to organising clothing drives and collecting salvage.

When, Anna, a young German girl who fled her country, seeks refuge in the village, Thea opens up her home, Rookery House, and invites Anna into their growing family. But while many in the village welcome Anna with open arms, others are suspicious of the new arrival . . .

As the war intensifies and panic sweeps the country, Anna is taken by the government who fear she's a spy. The women of Great Plumstead are already fighting their own battles on the Home Front, but will they come together in Anna's time of need to keep the newest member of their community safe from war?

The Mother's Day Victory is the perfect wartime family saga and the second novel in Rosie Hendry's much-loved series, filled with heart-warming friendships, nostalgic community spirit and a courageous make-do-and-mend attitude. Perfect for fans of Nadine Dorries, Donna Douglas and Elaine Everest.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book picks up right after the first one ends, and that is why I think I should have read the first one. That being said, I did enjoy this book, although I have heard that the first was much better. I will leave that for you to decide. I did enjoy that I got brief summaries of what had happened so that I was not completely lost.

We are in the village of Great Plumstead, getting ready to welcome Anna, who has fled her homeland after sanctions were placed on the Jewish people. Anna gets a mixed welcome, as I imagined a lot of people did during this time period. Honestly, this was a very real portrayal and description in my opinion.

Of course, then Anna was taken away with all of the other German immigrants. The process of trying to decide if she, and the other immigrants, are a threat is rather lengthy and a bit boring to me. When Anna was first taken away, I was scared for her, but as the story unfolds, I almost forgot she was imprisoned. I guess I expected a little more from a historical fiction novel than this. As I previously stated, it is not bad, but it is rather tame in comparison to my expectations.

I like that the author gives brief summaries of the previous book so that you are not totally lost if you begin this one without having read the first. I will have to see if that is enough to give this one a shot without having read anything previously from this author.

Rosie Hendry is new to me, but I love meeting new authors. Thanks to this blog for the introduction. I am now collecting the book, ‘East End Angels’. I like to have at least the first 2 books in a series before I start reading them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars A bookstore owner stalks an author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

I loved how Liza and Cassian slowly became part of each other's everyday lives before romance really took center stage. They were so comfortable together and completely made me smile.

And Alaric's formal complaint? I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my drink. 😂

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺

From USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestselling Author Pippa Grant comes a funny, heartwarming, swoony romance perfect for readers who love protective book boyfriends, found sisterhoods, slow burns, epically awkward meet-cutes, and love conquering all.

Content note: This book contains toxic family and references to bullying, suicide, abuse, and the off-page cancer death of the hero’s first wife several years before the story begins.

I moved to Santa Maria for peace and quiet.
Not for a saucy little bookworm determined to ruin both.
But Jasmine Knudsen is the most infuriatingly stubborn woman I've ever met.
Everywhere I go, she's there, refusing to take no for an answer.
She might be winning because I've never wanted anything the way I want her.
But she isn't interested in being caught…until I don't leave her a choice.
Now, we aren't playing her game. We're playing mine.
And when a future with her is on the line?
There's nothing I won't do to win.

I read smut, and I know things. It's what I do.
What I don't do is back down.
So when local romance author, River "I'm Too Good for Your Book Club" Jamison, refuses to come speak, I declare war.
He thought I was kidding when I swore to annoy him until he agreed.
I wasn't.
I thought he was joking when he threatened to have me arrested.
Turns out, the big grump wasn't kidding, either.
Now, he's refusing to drop the charges unless I go out with him.
And I must be losing it because I'm not saying no.
But I did not expect to become the main suspect when his latest manuscript goes missing.
Which means I might end up right back in jail.
Only this time, it's not just my freedom at stake.
It's my heart, too.
