Murder in the Piazza by Jen Collins Moore
Series: A Maggie White Mystery
Genres: Cozy Mystery

Maggie White, a downsized American executive stuck in Rome on her husband's expat assignment, is finding the dolce vita isn't all it's cracked up to be. She's taken a job offering painting instruction to well-heeled travelers and her boss-a rather unpleasant English lord-has turned up dead in his penthouse. Maggie's left with a palazzo full of suspicious guests, a valuable painting her boss might have stolen, and a policeman who's decided she's the prime suspect. Now Maggie must keep the tour up and running while she tracks the killer and works to clear her name.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I really loved that Maggie was older than most heroines in books. At 55 she is a little closer to my own age which made understanding her a little better. She was downsized from her job so she accompanied her husband to live in Rome for two years. Now, unhappy with playing bridge and cocktail parties she accepts a job with Lord Philip Walpole.

Lord Philip does small group art tours out of his home which sounds so exciting but when he is found dead Maggie and everyone else there becomes prime suspects. After all there are plenty who thought of killing off Lord Philip. He was a rather nasty character that you love to hate and honestly figure he’s going to be the victim right away.

Maggie sets out to figure out what happened and who the killer is. Her investigating takes us to all sorts of places that many will recognize at least the name of. I loved how the twists and turns of this book took me in a different direction than I thought it was heading. While this is a cozy mystery it could easily be just a straight mystery that fans of old world mystery writers will adore.

five-stars

About Jen Collins Moore

I love to travel, and I write mysteries about the places I love to visit. Remembering the sights, smells, sounds, and, of course, food, of a favorite place is one of my greatest pleasures when bringing a story to life.

I’ve always known I wanted to be a writer, but I took a long path to get here. After earning an A.B. from Bowdoin College (a fancy Latin term for a Bachelor of Arts) and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Business, I pursued a career in brand management. I left corporate America in 2010 to found Meez Meals, Chicago’s favorite meal kit service. I love getting to talk about food

Sounds like an exciting book, I too like that it shows an older heroine . We need to see more of that, our lives dont stop in our 20s and 30s

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars A bookstore owner stalks an author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

I loved how Liza and Cassian slowly became part of each other's everyday lives before romance really took center stage. They were so comfortable together and completely made me smile.

And Alaric's formal complaint? I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my drink. 😂

I cannot wait for the next trip back to Blackthorn Bay!

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺
