Genres: Cookbook

Food preservation is one of the most intimidating aspects of homesteading, yet one of the most important. Although there is a plethora of websites, books and blogs dedicated to learning how to preserve the harvest, people must search multiple places in order to gather the necessary information. For a beginner new to the world of preserving this leaves them frustrated and quite discouraged. The ideal tool for a newbie is a detailed reference guide, one such as The Farm Girl's Guide to Preserving the Harvest, that shares the basics on canning, dehydrating, freezing, fermenting, curing, and smoking, and how to use the right tools for each method. Homesteader and blogger Ann Accetta-Scott guides readers at the beginning, moderate or advanced levels of preserving. Newcomers to the world of preserving can start with a simple jam and jelly recipe using a hot water bath canner, while others may be advanced enough to have mastered the pressure canner and are ready to move onto curing and smoking meat and fish. The progression in this book will help the home preserver build confidence in the most common methods of preserving.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

As someone who has never canned anything in her life I was excited about this book. I have always been more than a little intimated about trying this. My younger sister does it every year and she acts like it is no big deal. This book is the ideal tool for someone like me.

I would love to say it is perfect for someone who has more experience for the recipes alone.Which by the way are awesome! This book gives you all the basics on canning, dehydrating, freezing, fermenting, curing, and smoking, plus how to use the right tools for each method. If you want to learn more about preserving this this book needs to be in your collection.

About Ann Accetta-Scott

Ann and her family left their lives in suburban America to live a homesteading, self-sustaining lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest. With her husband and their two youngest (of seven) children, they sought to reclaim a simpler and traditional way of living, changing their lives for the better.

Through the continual journey of converting a single-family mountain home on two acres, the family incorporated small livestock consisting of chickens, ducks, turkeys, guineas, rabbits, quails, and a small herd of goats. The desire to own their food source by growing, raising, and harvesting became a necessity in order to consume a clean food source, thus seeking independence from big AG. A food source which they are responsible for, and one that they owned.

As the gardens became abundant, and raising their own meat became stable—through the partnership of local farmers, and their ability to glean from the surrounding area—Ann, her husband, and children have been able to successfully preserve the harvest, allowing the family to consume homegrown foods year-round. Ann has received her certificate for completing the Home Food Preservation course, making her comfortable speaking on both the science and traditional methods for preserving foods.

Learning through experience has paved the way to speaking engagements in regard to various methods of preserving the harvest, raising livestock, and utilizing a holistic healthcare regiment through the uses of herbs, Colloidal Silver, and essential oils. In addition to public speaking, Ann’s book The Farm Girl’s Guide to Preserving the Harvest was written to encourage, mentor, and educate individuals to preserve foods as our forefathers did.

My grandparents were farmers and my grandmother canned nearly everything they grew and I watched her for years but I have to say I have never canned a thing. I find it very intimidating but this book would be great for as I really enjoy any type of diy or self help books.

I’m not a noobie into the world but having the knowledge how to ferment dehydrate or curing food, that’s out of my league, me and food get along but i’m still not that knowledgeable in the kitchen. This book sounds wonderful! and very helpful.

Like you – I’ve never canned a single thing. Perhaps if I had a garden, I’d be more likely to. But I can always get produce from the store, and can that, right? I’d love to read this!!

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺
