Sword of Vengeance by Peter Gibbons | Book Review

I was more than pleasantly surprised by this book. I typically don't read this sort of book at all but I was asked ot take a chance and I'm glad I did. I had not read any of the previous three books but found that I could follow along with no problem. All in all this was an excellent read.

Sword of Vengeance by Peter Gibbons
Series: The Saxon Warrior #4
Genres: Historical Fiction

In the aftermath of the great battle of Maldon, justice is demanded and vengeance will be served!

992AD

King Aethelred’s the Unready’s army has been defeated at the historic Battle of Maldon by Viking invaders led by Olaf Tryggvason and King Sweyn Forkbeard.

The strategic turning point of the battle was when Godric, an East Saxon Thegn, fled the battlefield taking with him the Saxon army, leaving behind his brothers to be massacred in a welter of blood and Norse axe blades.

Saxon warrior Beornoth emerges from the ashes of defeat with his heart aflame with vengeance and when King Aethelred sends for Beornoth with orders to punish those traitors responsible for the crushing defeat, he heeds the king’s call.

With a small band of loyal warriors, Beornoth embarks on an unforgiving journey across the perilous landscape to seek out Godric and exact his bloody revenge. They must fight their way through a world teeming with political intrigue, shifting alliances and the ever-present threat of the Vikings.
Can Beornoth triumph over insurmountable odds in this pulse pounding quest for retribution.

If you enjoyed The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell, you'll love Beornoth’s Quest for Vengeance!

In the aftermath of the intense Battle of Maldon, the protagonist Beornoth is in dire straits, and Brand must exert every effort to ensure his survival. This poignant and pivotal start to the story delves into loss and the brutal aftermath of the battle, showcasing Brand’s strength as he persists despite the emotional toll. The author skillfully infuses guttural strength and determination, making the opening of the book deeply emotional and captivating.

While Beornoth manages to survive, the outcome hangs in the balance, leaving readers hopeful yet uncertain. The narrative unveils the harsh realities of war politics, forcing characters to decide whether to continue the fight or compromise their pride by paying off the enemy. The emotional depth intensifies as Beornoth and his wife confront their inner demons, grappling with the aftermath of brutal assault and loss.

The latest battle becomes a pivotal moment in their relationship, as retribution weighs heavily on their minds, testing Beornoth’s commitment to honor. The author adeptly sets the scene, creating emotive characters and an immersive atmosphere that forces readers to empathize with the struggles. The narrative explores the challenging choices faced by characters dealing with unimaginable loss, evoking a real emotional roller-coaster.

For those who enjoy gore, the book offers ample action, but it transcends expectations by seamlessly blending historical detail with a gripping, gut-wrenching plot. Beornoth’s pursuit of justice against the cowards and traitors from the battle adds a layer of complexity, putting the time period into perspective and highlighting the plight of the innocents caught in the chaos.

In terms of pace, the story engrosses the reader to the point where chapter lengths and details become inconspicuous. A truly enjoyable and immersive read that seamlessly combines historical elements with a captivating plot.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars A bookstore owner stalks an author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars

A bookstore owner stalks an author.

The author threatens to call the police.

Then actually does.

Somehow this turns into a romance and I loved every minute of it. 😂

Jasmine and River were chaotic, stubborn, funny, and completely perfect together. Their banter carried this entire book for me.

Also, River trusting Jasmine when everyone else was questioning her? That man knew exactly who she was.

I loved how Liza and Cassian slowly became part of each other's everyday lives before romance really took center stage. They were so comfortable together and completely made me smile.

And Alaric's formal complaint? I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my drink. 😂

I cannot wait for the next trip back to Blackthorn Bay!

Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to k Bridger was the Rogue Pack wolf I most wanted to know more about, and his story absolutely delivered. We've seen glimpses of him throughout the series—always keeping his distance while still showing up when it mattered most. Finally learning the truth behind his past and the loss he carries was heartbreaking.

Kit was not at all who I expected for Bridger, but she ended up being exactly what he needed. Their story felt a little different from the other books in the series, focusing more on healing, guilt, and emotional growth than outside conflict. I actually loved that change of pace.

The Rogue Pack's matchmaking antics had me shaking my head and laughing at the same time, and as always, the pack dynamics were one of my favorite parts of the book.

A sweet, emotional paranormal romance filled with heart, healing, and one grumpy wolf who finally gets the happiness he deserves. 🐺

From USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestselling Author Pippa Grant comes a funny, heartwarming, swoony romance perfect for readers who love protective book boyfriends, found sisterhoods, slow burns, epically awkward meet-cutes, and love conquering all.

Content note: This book contains toxic family and references to bullying, suicide, abuse, and the off-page cancer death of the hero’s first wife several years before the story begins.

I moved to Santa Maria for peace and quiet.
Not for a saucy little bookworm determined to ruin both.
But Jasmine Knudsen is the most infuriatingly stubborn woman I've ever met.
Everywhere I go, she's there, refusing to take no for an answer.
She might be winning because I've never wanted anything the way I want her.
But she isn't interested in being caught…until I don't leave her a choice.
Now, we aren't playing her game. We're playing mine.
And when a future with her is on the line?
There's nothing I won't do to win.

I read smut, and I know things. It's what I do.
What I don't do is back down.
So when local romance author, River "I'm Too Good for Your Book Club" Jamison, refuses to come speak, I declare war.
He thought I was kidding when I swore to annoy him until he agreed.
I wasn't.
I thought he was joking when he threatened to have me arrested.
Turns out, the big grump wasn't kidding, either.
Now, he's refusing to drop the charges unless I go out with him.
And I must be losing it because I'm not saying no.
But I did not expect to become the main suspect when his latest manuscript goes missing.
Which means I might end up right back in jail.
Only this time, it's not just my freedom at stake.
It's my heart, too.
